Gatehouse Do's and Don't's

  • Bring in as little as possible. Use clear bags and/or clear bins to carry your items in. The items you bring in must be on your group’s memo prior to your start date each year. Your group’s memo must include all items you plan on bringing into the prison throughout the year. This list of items must be sent in to your program’s supervisor for approval at least 2 weeks prior to your group’s start date each year. The guards in the Gatehouse will have this memo to verify that the items you are bringing in have already been approved.

  • If there are medical reasons that prevent your ability to clear the metal detector in the Gatehouse, please be prepared to present a medical note to the officer in charge.

  •  Do not wear or bring in items that have metal (i.e., no underwire bras, shoes/belts with metal, jewelry, hair accessories).

  •  Smart watches, wallets, purses, and phones are not allowed.

  •  No tank tops or sleeveless shirts/blouses (unless wearing a cardigan or jacket). No torn jeans. Dress modestly.

  • Open toe shoes and slides (shoes with the back out) are no longer permitted.

  • Since the goal is to get through the Gatehouse as quickly as possible, please take off outerwear (coats, sweaters, hats, gloves, etc.) and empty your pockets as soon as practicable upon entering the Gatehouse.  Remember, if you set off the metal detector twice, you will be asked to leave the premises.  Therefore, if you set off the metal detector on your first attempt, make sure you take off your shoes, empty your pockets, take off your belt and any jewelry or hair accessories you may be wearing to ensure you do not set off the metal detector a second time.

Program Needs

  •  AA and NA volunteers are needed. Please contact Mr. Hughes at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or Mr. Bright at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you are interested in serving.

  • There is always a need for hygiene products for indigent inmates.  Hygiene product donations must be pre-approved by submitting a Donation Acceptance Form.  Complete Sections B, C, and D and send to Ms. Tierney for prison approval. Ms. Tierney will then contact you regarding the approval and to give you details on how to get the items to her.  Ms. Tierney's email address is SThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  See the Forms section at the bottom of this page for more information.

The Dollar stores carry these items in the large size for $1 each.  Inmates are only allowed a certain number of items. They would need more than a couple of days’ worth of products and cannot have several small containers just for one product. However, Ms. Tierney will take the small hotel size items to disperse to the case managers so they can have them on hand when a need arises. This would be a great service project for your Sunday school class, business, organization, ministry, or family.

Approved Hygiene Products (large size preferred):

  •  Bars of soap

  •  Shampoo

  •  Conditioner

  •  Deodorant

  •  Toothpaste

  •  Toothbrush

  •  Lotion

 Upcoming Events

Please Note: This event has been postponed due to public hearth concerns.  Please check back for updates.

The CRC’s next fundraiser is a Spring Concert scheduled for Saturday, March 21 at Umstead Park United Church of Christ, 8208 Brownleigh Drive, Raleigh, NC 27617.  Our goal is to raise the remainder of the money needed to purchase and install audio/video equipment in the prison’s chapel.  We have raised $6,000 toward that end yet still need an additional $6,000 to complete this campaign. Concert tickets will be sold for $20 each.  If unable to attend this fundraiser, please consider taking a love offering within your group to donate to the CRC’s audio/video campaign. Any support you are able to give will be much appreciated!
